Nine Meals from Anarchy: Oil dependence, climate change and the transition to resilience
Posted late Monday evening, January 12th, 2009
This is an article about the higly interrelated nature of all the core systems of our society, and its large dependency on oil for its proper operation.
Among other stuff, the authors point out that, from an energy efficiency perspective, it is higly inefficient to feed ourselves using animals; meat yields barely a 1/25 of the energy it requires to be produced. Vegetables yield 1/5. And meat requires large amounts of arable land just to produce the food needed by the cattle. And it is responsible for up to 1/5 of all the greenhouse gases. And... *sigh*
By the way, this is a great book about energy. I strongly recommend it. Thanks to Juan Gabriel for spotting it.
